“When the Applause Finished, I RACED to the start line that was a metre away”

We arrived at the Aylestone Leicester junior parkrun with plenty of time in our hands. We were at the Leicester parkrun instead of the Reading parkruns because we were visiting my nanni and nanna, to celebrate my nanna’s birthday.

We were there with plenty of time because I was leading the warm up! This is the second time I have volunteered at a 2k parkrun, previously I have been a bar code scanner.

In my warm up routine, I started off with 10 seconds of bum kicks and 10 seconds of high knees. Secondly I demonstrated three strokes of front crawl, backstroke and butterfly using my arms, this is to warm up the arms.

Next I did 5 spins of the ankles clockwise and anti clockwise on both feet. Then I did turns of the hips, lastly I did a 10 second sprint on the spot with a countdown of 10 seconds.

The race director announced that the warm up was finished, and thanked me. The runners started to applaud for my excellent warm up 🙂 I heard someone say

“that was the best warm up ever!”

When the applause finished I raced to the start line which was 1m away.

Even though this blog was written for my volunteering, here is a quick summary about what happened in the race itself.

I came 2nd overall, and I was first in my age category, the boy in first was 14. I got a PB (personal best) for that course and I was 10 seconds off my overall 2k PB.

My mum, dad, nanni and nanna were there to support me.
