“On Sunday 3rd September 2023, I got my best position at a 2k parkrun ever!”
We almost missed the race as we left the house late. We arrived at Dinton 2k junior parkrun, and witnessed approximately 30 cars in the car park, my mum , my sister and I ran through the Dinton Activity Centre as a warm up, whilst my dad was parking the car.
The race director was informing everyone about the rules. My sister and I did our pre run stretches, to ensure we don’t pull a muscle or tear a hamstring, we then walked over to the start line to get a good spot for when the race starts.
The race director shouted “3,2,1 GO!” and we all set off. In the first 100m I was in third place, after that I bolted forward to first place. I was pleased that I was in such a good position at an early stage of the race. Around 500m in I was overtaken by the boy in second place. However after 50m I took back what was rightfully mine! 🙂
At various stages of the race, the boy in second place, tried to sprint into first position, however I answered back with my own burst of speed.
Throughout the race, my body felt energetic and I felt excited. I knew I had this race in the bag! When I saw the tree before the finish tunnel, I started to run faster and when I saw my dad, I put in another burst of speed, faster than ever before.
I could hear people clapping softly as I got around the last corner, and the closer I got to the finish the clapping got gradually louder.
I walked over to my dad to accept my congratulations and collect my barcode so the marshals could register my time.
Dinton is the best Junior Parkrun ever!
